New Socks

Enforced rest has made me finish a pair of socks I started last Winter. They have a lovely all-over lacy pattern and are knitted on 4 2.5 double-ended needles. I find bamboo needles work best. These were knitted using opal self-patterning wool which retails around £8.50 a ball. It washes beautifully and is really comfortable. Have a look at http://www.opalsockyarn.com/Schafpate.html

It's December and it's cold...

...But at least it hasn't snowed yet. Time to dust off your needles and get knitting those socks! There are some lovely yarns about from chunky to the traditional 2-ply. You can also use varigated yarn for interest or why not try a cable or two on the body of the sock?
This pic is from King Cole's range of varigated 4-ply yarn. The pattern is free with the wool. Why not ask for it as a Christmas presie?

Crocheted Socks

In spring and summer it's nice to wear something pretty and decorative. Crochet can produce some lovely effects and there are lots of free patterns on the web to try. Have a look at 'Crochet Pattern Central' (http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/socks/php).

There are some really lovely 'Intuitive Shell Socks' that would be perfect for the season.

Lacy Socks for Spring

Why not knit some lacy socks for spring? They can be very 'on-trend' when teamed up with a pair of 'peep-toe' shoes and floral patterned spring dress.

Here is a free pattern from 'All about You' using Rowan cashsoft 4 ply wool and knitted on 2 needles (3.25) http://www.allaboutyou.com/craft/All-About-Ewe-free-knitting-pattern-knit-diamond-panel-socks-lacy-cuffs/v1

Happy Knitting!!

Bamboo Socks

Bamboo has very interesting properties so it's a great yarn to use for knitterd socks. Bamboo yarn is made from fibres that are round and much smoother than other fibres such as cotton. Bamboo fibre also absorbs and evaporates sweat so socks made from Bamboo yarn will keep your feet dry and comfortable for longer. Also, being naturally anti-bacterial, bamboo is more hygienic and healthier for your feet.
Bamboo is good for the environment. It is 100% naturally grown: it thrives naturally without pesticides or fertilizers and the fibre is 100% biodegradable. It is easy to wear if you suffer from allergies whilst having a cool and comfortable feel.

Regia do some lovely bamboo/wool/polyamide mix yarns in 4ply that is ideal for socks. Why not get some and try out the yarn for yourself!

The last of the winter socks has gone!

I've just sold another pair of thick woolly socks - the lovely denim ones - does this mean that Spring has been slow to kick in?

I'm planning to knit some lacy socks for summer wear - maybe I've packed away the thick wool and needles too soon!

Anyway, I've bought some lovely King Cole 4 Ply Yarn - ideal for sock knitting. It even came with a simple free pattern. There are lots of lovely colours - see http://www.kingcole.co.uk/pages/zig-zag.html
I shall be posting pics of my efforts soon.
