The last of the winter socks has gone!

I've just sold another pair of thick woolly socks - the lovely denim ones - does this mean that Spring has been slow to kick in?

I'm planning to knit some lacy socks for summer wear - maybe I've packed away the thick wool and needles too soon!

Anyway, I've bought some lovely King Cole 4 Ply Yarn - ideal for sock knitting. It even came with a simple free pattern. There are lots of lovely colours - see http://www.kingcole.co.uk/pages/zig-zag.html
I shall be posting pics of my efforts soon.

Denim Slipper Socks

As we have seen quite a bit of sun this week - this will be the last post concerning slipper socks - as I shall be working on my range of summer-weight socks.

These lovely denim socks will keep you toasty warm throughout a blustery spring and chilly evenings.

Put a sock on it!

Walking on icy streets need not be a downhill experience if you put your socks over your shoes - so claims recent research reported by The Guardian Newspaper on Tuesday 9th March.

Socks over shoes surpass shoes over socks for strolling on slippery city slopes, says a study done in New Zealand. In other words – in the words of the study itself – "wearing socks over shoes appears to be an effective and inexpensive method to reduce the likelihood of slipping on icy footpaths".

Lianne Parkin, Sheila Williams and Patricia Priest did an experiment to test the wisdom of a local winter tradition. The trio, based at the University of Otago in Dunedin, published a report in the New Zealand Medical Journal.

However, it seems that what people think of this behaviour may mean that people won't try it!
